Ahead of this year’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, United Way of York County’s Helen Zimmerman, Development Director, and Kristin Taylor, Director of Community Partnerships and Initiatives, joined Ashley Lang on WRHI’s Straight Talk to discuss food insecurity in York County and the growing needs facing local ALICE families.
During the conversation, Helen and Kristin shared insight into the work of United Way’s Financial Stability Network, the realities many working families face while living paycheck to paycheck, and how programs like Stamp Out Hunger help local food pantries prepare for increased summer demand when children are out of school.
The interview also highlighted the importance of community partnerships, the impact of childcare and financial stability programs, and the role local residents can play in supporting neighbors facing food insecurity.
Locally, this year’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive collected an incredible 10,199 pounds of food, providing the equivalent of nearly 8,500 meals for York County families. Donations benefited organizations including Pilgrim’s Inn, Salvation Army, Hope of Rock Hill, Fort Mill Care Center, Clover Area Assistance Center, and other community partners working to address food insecurity across the county.
