Financial Literacy Month

General

United Way of York County, SC is committed to helping 3,000 York County families achieve financial stability by 2030.

Building a strong financial foundation isn’t always easy, but it is possible with the right support. That is why United Way of York County is helping residents gain a stronger financial footing by addressing the root causes of underemployment and the need for financial literacy.

We’re helping people in crisis pay essential bills, and connecting them with local resources for job training. We’re working with employers and educators to create pipelines for jobs that lead to economic mobility. We’re offering financial coaching and education.

With support from our community, United Way is assisting those in need to manage their credit, reduce their debt, build their assets and increase their income—resulting in financial stability.

Mia’s Path to Financial Stability

With the help of our partners, donors, volunteers, and advocates —we’re offering hope and help where it’s needed the most.

One of these many families includes Mia. Like many working families, Mia has little to no means to deal with an unexpected expense despite having a full-time job. She discovered her home had poor plumbing and she faced an extremely high water bill. The unplanned costs of increased utilities coupled with the cost of the repair left her unable to pay her rent.

Through no fault of her own, a full-time employee, earning too much for typical assistance, was unable to pay her monthly bills. Using our 2-1-1 helpline, we were able to assist Mia with her rent and connect her with a representative at our local utility company to process an adjustment to her water bill.

UWYC knows that as a community, we can help individuals like Mia on their path to financial stability.

United Way of York County believes donors like you not only help one family to succeed but help our whole community to rise. Your gift enables families to receive financial literacy training, decrease their debts, gain employment, or start to earn a livable wage. These are just some of the ways we are helping individuals on the path to financial stability.
