The Stamp Out Hunger Postal Food Drive allows you to help residents of York County by gathering those extra canned and non-perishable food items for your local postal carrier to pick up every year on the second Saturday in May. You can place food items by your mailbox on this day in order for them to be picked up by your letter carrier and delivered to local food pantries, including: Pilgrims’ Inn, Project Hope, Dorothy Day Food Pantry, Love & Cherish, Fort Mill Care Center, P.A.T.H. Ministries and Clover Area Assistance Center. All food donations stay in York County. In 2019, York County residents donated 23,087 pounds to these local food pantries.
United Way of York County, SC partners with local post offices and coordinates with food banks that are in need of re-stocking their shelves at a critical time of year. Food pantries’ resources become dangerously low in the summer months. The timing of this food drive is important because these agencies have traditionally seen a drop in donations during this time of year when the demand for services is going up.
Stamp Out Hunger food drive will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020.
Food insecurity is still heavily on the rise with over 30,000 York County residents living in poverty and a great percentage living below the poverty level. Please support this year’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive and help support families in need. It’s easy to help. Simply place any of the following items near your mailbox and your letter carrier will collect it:
• Canned soup
• Canned meats
• Dried beans
