- Dolce Lusso Open House Benefits Toys for Happiness

Dolce Lusso Spa and Salon will be hosting an Open House to benefit two local non-profits during the holiday season.  On Sunday, December 13, 2009, owner Bob Delong will be inviting the public to the spa and salon from 5 – 8 p.m. for hors d’oeuvres and beverages, as well as a chance to win several spa and salon packages.  Admission to the Open House is a toy for Toys for Happiness and a canned good for the Fort Mill Care Center . Grand Prize will be a trip for four to Myrtle Beach with spa services at the Dolce Lusso Spa and Salon at Myrtle Beach .  Dolce Lusso is located at 985 Market Street, Suite 102, Fort Mill, S.C.

Delong is no stranger to supporting charities.  Growing up in West Virginia , Delong felt lucky to have parents working for the steel company and school district, providing a good life in an otherwise underprivileged area.  He’s family taught him early to give back when he could.  “Giving back has been life-long,” he said.  “We gathered gifts, wrapped them and delivered them to families in the area.” Even after moving to the Charlotte area, he still gathered presents to take back to his hometown during the holidays.

More recently, as Delong learned of the homeless children in the area, he wanted to find a way to help.  “I was shocked at how many homeless kids we have in York County ,” he said.  According to the Pathways to Housing’s 10-Plan to Respond to Homelessness, 405 students were identified by local school districts during the 2008-09 school year as being homeless.  “That’s a tough pill for me to swallow,” Delong said.

Once Delong heard about Toys for Happiness, the idea grew to open up his business as a toy-raiser for the holiday assistance program, as well as provide food for the Fort Mill community through the Fort Mill Care Center .  Toys for Happiness is a partnership between United Way of York County, SC and WRHI Radio to provide toy assistance for York County children ages birth to 14-years-old.  Delong’s goal is to raise 2,000 toys during the open house event, which would assist the 3,000-4,000 expected children that will be served by Toys for Happiness this holiday season.

“Bob and Dolce Lusso are an excellent example of how businesses can reach out to non-profits and make a big difference in local lives,” Debbie Hayworth, Director of Community Building for United Way of York County, SC, said.  “His efforts and the attendees’ contributions will truly make happy holiday memories for many children in our community.”
